If you’ve walked through a Barnes & Noble in the last two years, chances are you’ve seen them—The Woobles. Cute, quirky crochet animals lined up on a shelf, quietly convincing your child (and maybe you) that this time you’ll become a crochet family.
They’ve been everywhere on social media… and apparently still very popular among kids. So we decided to unpack one together and give you our honest Boss Mama review.
The Woobles are beginner-friendly crochet kits that come with everything you need to create a stuffed animal—yarn, a crochet hook, instructions, stuffing, and the tiny pieces that turn a ball of yarn into a legit character.
Kids love them because… well, they’re adorable. Parents love them because they look like wholesome screen-free fun.
But we wanted to know: Are they actually doable for kids? And are they worth the hype?
Let’s break it down.
Veronica tried The Woobles last year with her then-five-year-old. He picked a penguin, they brought it home, opened it… and reality set in.
Five-year-old attention spans + crochet = a short-lived attempt.
Totally normal.
Veronica said she didn’t have the time to sit and really guide him, and he didn’t have the patience to stick with it solo. So the kit got set aside—cute, but too early for him.
Fast-forward to this year. Veronica’s older son (now 10) went to Barnes & Noble to pick out a gift for a friend… and he chose The Woobles again.
Kids are STILL talking about them. They’re still trending. That says a lot.
He picked Hugo the French Bulldog—adorable, compact, and confidence-boosting. We brought one home and decided to finally open it together.
When Sabrina opened the kit, we found:
Everything is cute, compact, and thoughtfully packaged. Truly, the presentation is part of the appeal.
There’s also a QR code that lets you scan and access video instructions through the Woobles app—huge win for visual learners.
Fun fact: co-founder Justine Tiu created The Woobles because she wanted something relaxing to do with her hands after long workdays.
Which checks out—crochet is soothing. Honestly, more moms should pick these up for themselves too.
This is not a two-minute craft. It requires patience and some hand-eye coordination.
For the right child, it’s magic. For a younger one, it’s a “maybe later.”
Yes—if you match the kit to the right age and expectation.
The Woobles are creative, high-quality, and surprisingly calming (for adults too). They’re a great way to spend unplugged time with your kids or to introduce them to a new hobby.
And the fact that these characters have stayed relevant for years?
That’s a sign they’re more than a trend.
